Hi there
How do i upgrade from virtualbox 2.1.4 to 2.2 without loosing all my VirtualMachine-Details, Snapshots, etc. (host: ubuntu itrepid)? Can I just check the virtualbox-2.2 package in synaptic and afterward remove the virtualbox-2.1 package?
I want to use the "export Appliance function" of the 2.2 version, but currenty I only have a 2.1.4 Version.
Thanks!
Floyd

Re: upgrade from 2.1.4 to 2.2
Ok, here is what worked fine for me:
copied all vdi's and machine folders and also the .Virtualbox folder.
sudo apt-get remove --purge virtualbox-2.1
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-2.2
copied the folder back to the same place
started virtualbox-2.2

Make sure to back-up your entire .VirtualBox directory in case you have to revert back to 2.1.4 ---- I had to due to some stability issues of VMs under 2.2.0 under Ubuntu server 8.04 LTS...

Re: upgrade from 2.1.4 to 2.2
actually i come from 2.0.x
just do this(it works well for my ubuntu.8.04.box)
$ sudo dpkg -r virtualbox-2.0
$ sudo dpkg --purge virtualbox-2.0 [if u wanna remove all the configuration of virtualbox too]
$ sudo sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-2.2_2.2.0-45846_Ubuntu_intrepid_i386.deb
$ sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
i agree to make back-up by
$ tar -cvf virtualbox.tar .VirtualBox(on your home directory)
[just in case u will turn back to previous installation]
happy, JJ
