VBox Guest Freezes

Hello,

I've 2 guest OSes on my Intel Q6600 machine. There is CentOS 5.2 64-bit running on it and one of my guest freezes everyday and I don't know why. Is there a way to log why this happens.

Also my two vms has the same configuration except hdd, the freezing machine uses ide and I created it by importing from windows, the other one is created manually by VBoxManage command and it uses sata.

Thanks a lot.

VBox version?
Run [VBoxManage showvminfo "VMNAME"] and display output here for both Guests.

I've installed VirtualBox-2.2.0_45846_rhel5-1.x86_64.rpm for Centos 5.2 64-bit. The vm has been frozen again, I've tried to poweroff the machine but it didn't work. When I run the command "VBoxManage controlvm Notebook --poweroff" It keeps me wait for nearly half an hour and nothing happens.

The vm which has the problem is named Notebook

Play with these settings:

ACPI: on
IOAPIC: off
IDE Controller: PIIX4

Any combination can cause a lockup or not, you will have to try a few combies (make a backup first).

I've tried all these settings, everything was looking fine while acpi was off for 24 hours but then the vm had frozen again. I'm now trying to clone the hd, create a new vm and continue. I'm wondering if it could be something usefull in the vm's log.

Review this thread...

http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... 738#p69738
I have reduced the memory foot print from 700MB down now to 384MB and the video from 128MB to 64MB also turned off 3d acceleration. (also changed networking mode from bridged to nat) and turn PAE on

thank you steve, I'll give them a try. In fact I've fix the problem of getting freeze on that machine but my other vm started to freeze now. I don't know if I can handle them from now on. They are two testing web servers on a quad-core cpu and I couldn't make them work together for 24h. I think this is not a suitable job for vbox, VMware would handle it.
