panic[cpu0]/thread-ffffffffbc26ba0: cannot mount root path

Post by raj.panchal »

Hello all,
I am a newbie in this world of Virtualization :) I am installing solaris 10 operating system VM ( previously running on VMware ESXi - free version ) on Sun Virtualbox 2.2.0 r45846 using Windows XP as guest OS

As mentioned above, we were having Solaris 10 (64bit) operating system running on VMware ESXi without any issues , but we had a requirement to port the VM from Vmware to Virtualbox on windows XP. We have also enabled to the virtualization support on the processor using BIOS

The porting of .ovf file and the image file/disk was successful but when we try to start the virtualmachine (imported from Vmware) on Virtualbox it is giving me panic errors and continuously rebooting without loading the OS.

I am getting following error

panic[cpu0]/thread-ffffffffbc26ba0: cannot mount root path /pci@0,0/pci1000,30@10/sd@0,0:b
ffffffffbc26ba0 genunix:rootconf+114 ()
ffffffffbc26ba0 genunix:vfs mountroot+61 ()
ffffffffbc26ba0 genunix:main+a9 ()
ffffffffbc26ba0 unix:_start+95()

system dump no dump device configured
...
rebooting

after that it reboots !!!

Has anybody encountered similar problem ??
Any help would be really appreciated

Are you certain that when you imported the image you put the correct information in when it asked you what you wanted in VBox?
My first attempt gave an error something like this but I had missed a setting.
Also did you remember to remove the VMware additions before you exported it?

Hi perry,
I do remember that , when I tried importing VM on Vbox, the Operating system it detected was Open Solaris , so I have changed it to Solaris 64 bit. Apart from that I dont remember that , i made any changes in setting that were imported using the .ovf file from VMware.

What sort of VMware addtions you are referring to ?

By any chance , do u remember the setting that worked for you ? I can try and give it a go using those

Cheers
Raj
