As the title says, I am trying to install VirtualBox 2.0.6 on Debian Stable. I have various reasons why I want this version instead of the newer version, which is not the purpose of this discussion.
However, when I try to install it by downloading the deb file from the virtualbox site, It gets to the "compile kernel" stage and fails. It then says that I cannot use virtualbox without fixing the problem. How do I get it to install properly?
Thanks.

you'll find a 2.0.8 in http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/2.0.8/ but that doesn't fix your problemmashcaster wrote:VirtualBox 2.0.6 on Debian Stable. I have various reasons why I want this version instead of the newer version, which is not the purpose of this discussion.
what does it say exactly?mashcaster wrote:It gets to the "compile kernel" stage and fails. It then says that I cannot use virtualbox without fixing the problem. How do I get it to install properly?
do you run the debian stock kernel or a self compiled one?

If you run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup (as root) you should get a log in /var/log/vbox-install.log (at least in version 2.2.0). Can you try that and see if there's anything useful in the log. Do you have the linux-headers-* package installed? I'm rather sure that you need that.
