Clicking on Setting hangs virtualBox?

Hi,

My machine is an intel i7 quad core machine, and my host system is windows vista 64 bit.

After I installed and created a new ubuntu virtual machine, I tried to go into "settings" to change some details, but virtualbox just hangs. I then tried to restart my computer, then all sorts of error message popped up such as "enumerate device win32_processor fail" all sorts of failures. I unstalled virtualbox, samething happened. I uninstalled Asus PC Probe 2 (a temperature and voltage monitor program) then finally those errors went away.

Still, I cannot access "Setting"

It is interesting that when I open up Task Manager to manually close "VBoxSVC.exe", then the Settings window would pop up. However because I closed that VBoxSVC.exe so inside Setting there's actually no virtual machine for me to change anything on. Anyway, something is blocking the Settings to come up and I wonder if anybody has encountered such problem before?

Thanks.

It's in the VirtualBox FAQ which version you need. Errors like the one you stated are a result of the wrong version being installed. Since 2.2.0, there is only one installer for Windows now, containing both 32 bit and 64 bit build. It should install the proper build automatically. However, it is possible that some software on the Host will make the installer pick the wrong architecture build to install.

If you are sure that thecorrect build is installed, and after a repair of the installation (which is needed for 2.2.0 to get Bridged working propely) you still get errors, please report it in the Bugtracker. You can't use your forum account there, so create a new one.
You're the first to mention this.
