Hello,
I need to make some test with apache2 (try to install virtualmin and awstats).
To do these test i'm asking the best network configuration to do in virtualbox because i'm confused by the various setting and, after some try without success i've decide to write on forum.
I've windows xp host and i want use a guest with ubuntu server 8.10 (without GUI).
From XP i want access to the apache server on guest and, from guest, i need to connect to Internet to download some .deb package
My internet connection is ADSL with dynamic IP and with a router configured in Route+Bridge. Unfortunately, I don't know how to configure a PPPoE connection in ubuntu without the gui.
I've try rhe bridge configuration on vbox making a bridge (on host) between the physical ethernet card and the vbox card that is created during installation.
From host i can see the aoache on guest but the guest cannot see the internet.
thank you for you pleasure

It's best if you get your modem/router to create the PPPoE connection itself, so you will get a NAT network to work with. Your IP address on the Host will be somewhere in the range of this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network.

Now once you've got that sorted out, the easiest way to get the webserver running is with Host Interface, or Bridged as it's called now. There are other options that might be easier for your case.

If you only need to access the webserver from the Host, then use Host-Only (available since 2.2.0) and follow the manual on how to set it up.

The last option is using Port Forwarding in combination with NAT. Use this ony if you fail to change your modem/router config and Host-Only isn't what you want.
