VirtualBox and Debian

I am trunning XP host with Suns virtuabox and I have installed the latest version of debian. I can ping the TCP/IP stack with no problem but for the life of me I can't get out to the rest of the world. XP is functioning fine, but the debian install just will not see the outside. Static IP, gateway and all that is correct.
