Vbox 2.2 Locks Computer

I can install virtualbox 2.2 perfectly fine on a Windows XP SP3. I can setup a virtual machine of Debian 5. When I go to start the vm, it loads the first screen but then it brings up a "Found New Hardware window" for VBox USB. It then complete freezes my computer to the point that I have to restart. Can anyone help me out please. Thanks.
