I am trying to install Win 7 beta on my Win XP host,
However i get told by Virtualbox that the disk is full.

The Virtual disk has can swell to 20 GB. Its only at plus/minus 4GB.
The physcial hard drive has plenty of GBs left on it and there are no special attribes assigned to the .vdi file.

What else should I check?

Your disk is using FAT32, change it to NTFS.
