I'm running Ubuntu 8.10, and have been using VirtualBox 2.1 successfully for a few months. I upgraded to 2.2 without incident, and imported my trusty Windows XP guest into the new version.
But when I started that guest, it simply greys out (Ubuntu's indication that it's stopped responding) and sits there.
I did a straight upgrade (apt-get install virtualbox2.2), then tried removing 2.1 and installing 2.2 (I deleted .VirtualBox from my /home directory as well)
There don't seem to be any dark and dirty messages in the logs either.

Re: Guest locks up on start after 2.2 upgrade
Same here. It's a clean Debian Lenny installation and I've been running Virtualbox via a "aptitude install virtualbox-2.2" and without any serious warnings during the installation process. It's a Linux Guest though which stops responding all of a sudden.I'm running Ubuntu 8.10, and have been using VirtualBox 2.1 successfully for a few months. I upgraded to 2.2 without incident, and imported my trusty Windows XP guest into the new version.
But when I started that guest, it simply greys out (Ubuntu's indication that it's stopped responding) and sits there.
No messages are logged anywhere.
I think I'll go back to the old virtualbox-2.1 package.
best regards.
