[network] VN in same network as host machine?

My PC has local IP 192.168.1.25, and my gateway is 192.168.1.1.

Can I somehow setup the network of my VM so that it gets an IP in the 192.168.1.x range, and I can run web serivces on it (like a http or ftp server) which I can access from my host machine?

For example if the VM gets IP 192.168.1.26, I can (from my host PC) browse to http://192.168.1.26 or FTP to 192.168.1.26, etc (provided I am running the right kind of service of course).

Its been in the b***dy manual for ages, Host interface/bridge is what you need.

Bridged doesn't work somehow. When I select it, it shows a warning in red at the bottom: "no bridged network adapted is selected". And when I click the config button (next to bridged), it has a "Bridged Network Adapter" selection there with exactly one option: "Not selected" :(

Am I doing something wrong or do I just misunderstand this whole Bridged concept?

Reinstall vbox and select repair option.

Did that (actually I installed v2.2.0 first, then again to repair) and the bridge option now shows my regular network card.

However if I now boot my VM, it doesn't get an IP (well, a 169.* etc address) and I can't connect to it from my host, and neither can I connect to the outside world from the VM..?

Are you sure you have a DHCP server running from a router or some sorts? try assigning a manual IP address.

Thanks, that did the trick. Seems to be working just fine now!Strange, cause yes I do have a working DHCP server (actually my host machines is using it too).

I also noticed the unexpected appearance of a "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" device in my host machine's network settings. But if I disable that, everything still works (both in host and VM).

Anyway, dank je Image
