My old VMware machines are ignored!

I just installed VB 2.2 under XP, but my virtual machines from August 2007, made by a then quite new VMware, don't appear in the leftmost column of VB.
I first tried in Preferences to let Default Machines Folder point to the folder My Documents\My Virtual Machines, in which each virtual machine has a folder.
Then to a similar D:\Virtual Machines. And then I copied the folder for my XP-machine into VB's default Vmachine folder.
But no machine ever appeared in the left column of VB, even though I often restarted VB. ????????

VMs need to be registered. VMWare and VB are not the same. It's not that they magically appear if a machine is put in it's VMs folder. Read the manual, then come back here.
