I just upgraded to 2.2.0, and I tried running my XP Pro VM, and it crashed (aborted) after 3mins of use (the last thing I did was open Outlook), and after months of no issues with 2.1.4 I would rather just stick with that.
How can I revert back to 2.1.4?

I already "sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-2.2" and then installed 2.1.4 (Downloaded the Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit Debfrom here: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds), but now I get the following error message when trying to run my VM:

I assume this is due to the fact that the VM was upgraded to the latest version and 2.1.4 can't read the xml of 2.2.0, so how can I revert back?

p.s. I am running Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit.

Revert the xml files from your backup, you did make a backup before upgrading right ?

If not, luckily Vbox did.

Look in all the config places (~/.VirtualBox; ..Machines/vm/...) there will be files named file.xml.1.6-linux.bak. Copy these over top of the v 1.7 xml files and you should be good to go.

Same issue here.
Upgraded to version 2.2.0 from 2.1.4 on Ubuntu 8.04.
XP SP3 was running for a few minutes until starting outlook 2003. It closed the virtualbox immediately.
After restart i did uninstall the guest additions for 2.2.0 and everything was working fine. Reinstalled the guest additions and got same issue.
Uninstalled the display driver that came with the guest additions and everything was running fine.

Seems that the display driver is the issue here.

Same issue when running Outlook 2007 on Windows XP Guest after working great in 2.1.4 it crashes the VBox VM in 2.2.0

Seems like a few people are experiencing these issues, anyone know when this will be corrected? Will we have to wait for the next release or is there a workaround that addresses these crashes in 2.2.0?

I must say I've been using VB for about 1.5yrs now and never have I had problems with it, but this 2.2.0 release seems to have some major problems, and now with Oracle buying Sun, I would expect it might take a while before all the details (transfer of company) get ironed out and we see a new revision, here's to hoping that is not the case.

Gonna give 2.2.2 a shot... will report back shortly...

I've also reverted back from 2.2.2. It seems that the video driver is unable to keep up with AutoCad. I've gone back to 2.06 where all seems to work fine. Any idea's of any workarounds other than going backward?

You stated that it worked with 2.0.x right? Else any other version will do. 2.0.8 is the latest 2.0 release and should be considered to have the least amount of bugs in that serie.

After a few days of using v2.2.2 w/ GA v2.2.2 I noticed that every time I booted up my VM of XP pro the desktop resolution and color quality were set to the lowest possible settings, and then once GA booted it would revert back to optimal resolution and color quality. But this would also have the negative side affect of messing up my desktop and quick launch icons... So I reverted back to GA v2.0.8 that vbox4me2 mentioned and all is well.

So just to reiterate VB v2.2.2 w/ GA v2.0.8 seems to be stable and all is well. I'll will report back if I notice any issues but I don't expect there to be any.
