I try to install OpenSUSE 11.0 x64 in Virtualbox 2.20 on Windows 7 (64 bit). The virtual machine boots OK on the 64 SuSE ISO-image but fails when packages to be installed are selected (with the error mesage 'you cannot run 64 bit software on a 32 bit OS'). OpenSuSE 11.0 386 (32 bit) installs OK!

Commonly know problem, see the FAQ, your hardware BIOS has vt-x switched off or doesn't support vt-x.

What CPU are you using in your computer? If it does not support Intel VT-x or AMD AMD-V, then you will not be able to run 64 bit guests in Virtualbox. And if your CPU does support this feature, you will still have to enable it in the motherboard BIOS as most motherboards ship with this option disabled (or even does not have this option!).
