vbox 2.2 suse11 guest not responding

Post by strichards »

I have a SuSe 11 guest running in a Vista Host.

The Guest window hangs to the host OS after some amount of time. The guest logs show the guest is still active but is unresponsive to host. I'm not sure if this is related to the memory regression mentioned in other threads or perhaps related to networking.

This guest ran fine under the VBOX 2.1.x versions, however would not run in the 2.2 betas.

I have reduced the memory foot print from 700MB down now to 384MB and the video from 128MB to 64MB also turned off 3d acceleration. (also changed networking mode from bridged to nat)

Running again. If it hangs I will try to RDP, I thought the guest was hung on my prior attempt (2 times now) but now that I know the guest is still running I will try some other stuff.

Log is here: http://pastebin.com/m4a2d2d06

It's been up for 5 hours now with the few changes I listed in my 1st post. Certainly a better result so far.

Hi,
Any better for you now?? I'm still having grief, but have to use bridged networking :(

Sometimes it will run for almost 24 hours without crashing, but crash it eventually does.

One other thing I notice is that after an hour or so, CPU usage of virtualbox goes up to roughly 20%. Normally it just sits there virtually zero as the virtual server is currently not doing much (CPU usage of the Ubuntu server remains near zero)

Arrgghh. Wish I'd just left it alone now as it was VERY stable before!

Changes I made seem to have alleviated the problem. I don't know which was the change that made the difference but I suspect reducing the memory. I also made one other change that I neglected to mention, and that was enabling PAE mode which was off.

Steve
