It took a bit of digging, but there is a guy who created a patched driver that will get SATA working on a Windows 2000 Professional guest OS.

Works like a charm. Here are the steps:

1. Install Windows 2000 as usual on the slower parallel IDE interface
2. Shut the virtual machine down
3. Enable the SATA Controller in the virtual machine settings, but leave your hard drive on the parallel ATA for now
4. Boot up Windows 2000 and direct it to the patched driver when it finds your new SATA controller
5. Shut the machine down again.
6. Go to settings and change the interface for your hard drive to SATA 0.
7. Enjoy a noticeably faster Windows 2000 guest OS!

Long Live Win2k!!!
**EDIT: For those who want hard numbers: Parallel ATA boot time: 42.378 seconds, SATA boot time: 37.440 seconds.

That's nice, I've updated the sticky to provide instructions on installing Windows 2000 with SATA from the get-go. Thanks! :-)

Can anyone vouch for these W2K SATA drivers? Are they safe to use or am I installing a system level virus/spyware? I am put off by the warning in the sticky? TIA.

The warning is just a disclaimer, in case you happen to break your system or trigger an already existing virus on your Host during these steps. The drivers themselves are clean last time I checked.
