Hey, I'm quite new to linux (basically installed Ubuntu 8.10 yesterday evening) and I'm trying to get a windows xp program working.
I've installed the latest version of VirtualBox, but now I'm having problems setting up the network.
I've tried finding it in the help files and on these forums but I probably overlooked it somewhere, as I can't find a similar problem.
When I try to acces internet it gives me the error that it can't find any installed networking cards, and when I go to networking in the control panel (in the virtual windows) it's just empty space.
I've tried different setups in settings > network but it just won't show up for me.
edit: It's windows xp professional service pack 3
This is probably something very newbish, but I hope you can help me.

Chapter 6 of the VBox users guide is a must read my friend. Pretty much says it all.
You need to setup the network in VBox and then it will show in your guest. Don't forget to install the Guest Additions too.

Re: Need help with setting up network
Thanks, I think I properly had set up my network in VBox as I searched for 'network' in the manual, but didn't know about Guest Additions.
If it still doesn't work.. I'll just start over till it does

Re: Need help with setting up network
Installing the GA is not a requirement to get the network working. You have to make sure that you select a supported NIC, and have it attached to a type you need, e.g. just internet is NAT.
