Network Bridge, Vista not working

The network bridge I "built" just do not work.

Within a Network, this is what I have:
Host: Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
VM: Vista

My Ubuntu connects to the internet thru Broadcom wireless card.

With Ubuntu I can see other computers on the network, and with Vista I can see a Windows2003 server, but cannot connect to it and neither see other computers within the network.

My VBox is configured so the Virtual Machine is Attached to "Host Interface" and selected 'br0' from the next file:
[/etc/network/interfaces] file:

Code: Select all

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
#*** note some configurations may require iface eth0 dhcp ***

auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
   bridge_ports eth0 vbox0

vbox0 alfaro br0

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
If you know any way for bridging, I would appreciate it. Because I need to see that Vista VM from other computers on the network so I can pull out a CRM Database. That is why is crucial.

Thank you,
Alfaro!

The reason it doesn't work is in the VirtualBox FAQ. Wireless and bridges don't work nicely. Use a newer VB version. Pick it from the website. You no longer need a virtual interface and bridge now.

I got VBox Version 2.1.4

I will try with the ethernet cable.

Question, Do I need to change the /etc/network/interfaces file back to:

Code: Select all

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
???

And on the network adapter while bridging, what option should I use in "Attached to:" "Not attached" or "Host interface"

If you used a bridge before then use "Host interface" now.
