Linux Host - No Local LAN Access...

Post by JexxTexx »

Hi
I've been using VB on a XP Host for a while and it has worked well.

I've now installed it on to my Ubuntu 8.10 PC and have successful installed XP & other linux OS'es as guests.

The issue I have is none of the Os's have an IP Address with in my LAN's Range. I have enabled Host Interface Mode, but this doesn't seem to have helped.
My LAN does have DHCP enabled.

Is there a simple how to for this ?? I pretty new to Lunix, so be gentle !!

Thanks :)

If you switched from NAT to Host IF then your MAC address may have changed. If so you will still have an entry for the old MAC address tied to eth0 in your /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. Delete this entry and reboot. udev device discovery will then associate the correct NIC with eth0 and you will acquire your DHCP ticket.

Hi

Is /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. located on the Linux host or the guest Linux ??

Once I delete it am I rebooting the complete PC or just the guest ?

Thanks :)

Why bother reading the manual when you can ask a Q?

Just think about it: The guest is failing to acquire a DCHP chit and therefore an IP address. I've told its because the virtual NIC on the guest has changed. It's the guest device enumeration, so its the 70-persistent-net.rules file on the guest you need to edit and the guest that you need to reboot. The other command that useful hear is ifconfig, and if you don't know what this does then there's this other command man to help you. Type man ifconfig.
