Good day,
I seem to be having some serious stability issues with Virtualbox 2.1.4 that were not present in 2.0.6. Vbox crashes without warning, and seemingly at random. I was using 2.6.24-22-generic with 2.0.6, and 2.1.4 made me upgrade to -23-generic. I would estimate it crashes about once every 3 - 4 boots, and usually within 5 minutes of booting.
I've looked at the log files, but they don't mean much to me. They start out with a listing of a "CFGM dump" (after some basic OS info), which i don't think i've ever noticed in the logs before. Usually there are obvious error messages sticking out, but nothing here.
I signed up to the forum in hopes of posting my log, but i don't see any options to add attachments here... It seems a bit silly to post the whole log here... is that normal for this forum?
Because of this, it seems to me that 2.0.6 is the most stable build I've ever used (since starting on 1.5.4) - I don't think I've ever seen 2.0.6 crash, and I am seriously considering downgrading because of this issue. But, if I do this, do I also need to downgrade the kernel? (I had some serious problems when trying to upgrade to 2.1.4, and even after upgrading the kernel, I still had to exit xml files just to recover XP, but that's a whole other story)
I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide here.

You can post the logs via a sharing site or here in a post but use a Code block(a button in the reply screen) around the log entries. If you have a picture you can attach that directly.

Re: Constant unexplained crashing - Ubuntu 8.04 host, XP guest
Thanks for the quick reply, vbox4me2. Below is my log file, immediately saved after my last crash. By the way, i notice the log usually has VBox.log, VBox.log.1, VBox.log.2, and VBox.log.3. I see that the not numbered one is the newest one, but i'm curious how and when it decides to start a new log...
Also, one other issue i have with Virtualbox is that if Ubuntu pops up with a low battery notification, this doesn't jump in front of any windows i have open in virtualbox (while using seamless mode), so i usually don't notice until the battery completely runs out. Is there any way i can change this, or is this more of a Ubuntuforums question?

I might miss a few options but try to fill this one out for the VM settings you use, these logfiles give me a headache, with the settings actually used/set makes it easier to debug.

I had a problem with NAT on 2.0.6 - if i left something network intensive running overnight, Vbox would usually crash at some point. I found a bug report somewhere saying that standard NAT settings caused this problem, and i tried to configure a bridge a while back but failed.
Thank you very much for your help!

Re: Constant unexplained crashing - Ubuntu 8.04 host, XP guest
With 2.14 HIF works differently, there is no more (need for a) bridge, see the 214 manual about that.chargersfan420 wrote: - Base memory: 1792 MB ( ~ 1/2 of available)
Use ram in steps, 512/1024/... 1792 can be a problem sometimes to xp being an odd value

See the bold remarks, you will have to try this in steps to find with one or which combo is causing the problem even if you need the specific option(s), but this will narrow it down.
