Stripped anything with nLite by chance? XP has the driver for the PCNet III adapter shipped with it, so the interface should install.

I had a problem booting the machine beacuse of some processor components' so I did this:

can that be the reason of my problem now?

That should not be the reason, else they would have noted it there. If you have Shared Folders, then use one of the Intel adapters (the server adapter should be in XP) and dowload the driver for it using the Host. Transfer the driver using SF to the Guest and install the NIC.
