Installing CD based programs?

Hi there, just got my first Mac (2008 iMac), and I need to install Simply Accounting. I've heard rave reviews about VirtualBox, so I downloaded, installed Windows XP home and got that up and running no problem. Now, I put my SA disc in and cannot access it inside Windows... what do I do?

ETA: The virtual drive does not show up as an option when I try installing the CD/DVD sharing from the Mac OS X install discs.

1. Start XP and log in if necessary.
2. Place the install CD in the Macs drive (if not already inserted)
3. From the VirtualBox VM (mac) menu select Devices > Mount CD/DVD-ROM > Host Drive OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A (the model of your Host Drive may differ)
4. Wait for the CD/DVD to Autoplay in XP (may take up to 15 seconds) or install manually by navigating to the CD/DVD drive in My Computer.

Hope this was helpful.

I am running Windows XP in VBox on my Mac Powerbook, and I am having the same problem. Unfortunately this fix didn't work for me. When I followed the instructions, the CD drive (D:) appears in Windows explorer, but the CD is not recognized as being in the drive. Also, it seems when I mount the CD/DVD drive, the guest additions ISO file gets unmounted, and I have to remount the guest additions in order for XP to properly start up again. Any ideas? Thanks.

Windows XP is now recognizing my CDs. I mounted the CD drive and selected the pass through option, and that did it. I'm not sure why it worked this time. The last time I tried that XP didn't start up properly. I had to instead mount the guest additions ISO to get XP started. In any case, it's working now.

You don't need to keep the guest additions mounted in order to run them; have you installed them onto your guest?

I am running Windows XP in my box, on a Mac with Lion. I also have a commercial cd that is supposed to run from the cd with an autorun and a setup file (similar to the Rosetta Stone cd). when i try to run the cd it tells me that it autoplay has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I have tried mounting the cd, I have also tried enabling passthrough. I can see the files but they just won't run.

thoughts?
