Headless Mandriva host VBox 2.1.4 and XP guest sound trouble

Post by G.C. »

To all,

I guess this is a Virtualbox issue, or maybe a Mandriva issue. However my issue is not addressed in Virtualbox forums. (I searched the forums first before posting this).

I'm running Mandriva 2009 headless VirtualBox as a host, running XP as guest. From the Vbox GUI sound is played correctly on the hosts' soundcard.
The trouble is with sound over vrdp.

I tried connecting to this Mdv host with succes from Windows XP running tsclient and from Thinstation (linux) running rdekstop but in both cases the problem is:

The XP guest regognizes the virtual AC97 soundcard and a mixer window is present.

Sound is played as "clicks" (not stuttoring) and even the clicks are very faint (low volume) .

The Mandriva host is using Pulseaudio (and Virtualbox is configured for Pulseaudio).

I tried:

Setting the VirtualBox soundcard from zc97 to SB16, and when I do so, the XP guest doesnt't regognize the virtual SB16 at all (vbox guest additions are installed).

Tried changing the soundsystem in Mandriva from Pulseaudio to Alsa, but that didn't help any.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,
G.C.
