VBox suddenly forgets about the WinXP guest

I'm running Fedora 10-x86_64. I have been running the latest release of VBox with WinXP Pro guest.
It has been running for weeks flawlessly. This morning when I started my system up and started VBox it came up as if it had never been run before. I went through all of the little tricks learned over some time and nothing worked.
I checked the VDI and supporting files everything was as it has been for some time. So I reloaded WinXP and started over.
Got everything working and shut down for lunch. When I started my system and VBox all gone ran as if it never had been run before. Again all the necessary files to operant the guest were where they had been all along.
This nothing like I have ever seen with VBox or Fedora 10.
Would appreciate some input, thanks to all.
