Expanding the virtualbox hard disk

I am running the latest virtualbox from the web site on a hp 2.4gh intel core 2 duo latpop running Ubuntu 8.10 running 64 bit. I set up my virtual hard disk to the default which was 20gb with the dynamically allocate checked but my 20gb is taken up with my vista 32 bit os why is the hard disk not expanding. Do I need to do something to increase the size?
