Access host server when no internet available

HOST: laptop LAMP Ubuntu 8.10

GUEST: WinXP

I'm working on a few web designs and it's important for the site to look good on all browsers. From the guest I can type the IP of the HOST (most of the time it is something like 192.168.1.103). This connects to the apache server on the HOST and I can test out the designs.

My question is...How do I do this when there is no internet connection (no ip gets assigned to the host)? I just realized this while getting ready for a meeting with a client (this weekend) and might not have internet access (restaurant). I've been trying to test this out by disabling wireless and not using a network cable. I cannot find a way to get this to work...I still have access to my shared folders (\\Vboxsvr\whatever) from the guest. If this connection still works...shouldn't there be a way to get the apache connection to work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you use NAT, you can try to use 10.0.2.2 to access the Host. If that fails, you have to use a virtual adapter (a TAP interface) and use Host Interface on that TAP adapter. Set an IP on the Host and Guest, and you should have connectivity. In 2.2 there will be a Host Only adapter choice.
