For some reason I cant seem to get this usb external device "Jimicron USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge" to work .
its always grayed out in my virtuabox On my Linux host it works grand

Id like to be able to enable it to work..within VB

It's possible you don't have USB working correctly, or some modules is preventing the release of the device. Please see the VirtualBox FAQ for the USB part.
