To be fair this is also covered in the Forum FAQ and in the Virtualbox documentation in some depth. The issue is that the VBox app can't tell the difference between the CPU not being VT-x enabled and the BIOS not enabling it: the functionality isn't their when it looks for it. Both AMD and Intel are continuously bringing out new chips, so maintaining a mapping of CPU type and stepping to VT-x capability is quite a chore. Far easier to consult the vendor documentation or Wikipedia.

I'm trying to run a 64bit machine with VBox 2.2.2 on Windows XP 32 bits and it complains about VT-x/AMD-V not being operational. I double checked and the virtualization option is activated in BIOS, also updated to the latest version of it and downloaded the Intel Procesor Identification Utility which confirms my processor (C2D E6550) supports VT-x.
Is this supported on Windows?

Try vbox 2.08 or 2.1.4, if they can use vt-x it can be a 2.2.2 bug.

When this bug will fixed? I'm have same problem. 2.1.x work, but 2.2.x and 3.0 don't.

Something to try:
1. disable vt-x
2. unplug the pc from power, wait 1 minute
3. enable vt-x
4. unplug the pc from power, wait 1 minute

Not effective. VMware-guest64check displayed what computer compatible.
VirtualBox 2.1.0, 2.1.2, 2.1.4 work normal. But 2.2.0, 2.2.2, 2.2.4, 3.0.0 don't work.
I test now all listed versions.

IIRC 2.1.x if you ticked the VT-x box but weren't VT-x enabled then it would quietly fall back to software virtualisation and thus appear to work. This is what happened on my XP laptop.

Possible, but 64 bit needs hardware virtualization. It won't run on software, remember?
