Solaris guest on Ubuntu 8.10 - can't install

Hi,
I am trying to install Solaris (for SPARC) as guest OS on Ubuntu 8.10. I have VirtualBox 2.1.4 installed.
I have setup my VM with CDROM ISO image of Solaris 10 (sol-10-u6-ga1-sparc-dvd.iso) from Sun web site. However, when I try to start, I always get the message "FATAL: No bootable media found ! System halted". I've also tried the CD image with the same result.
I can successful run both windows xp and Opensolaris installs ok.
Has anyone managed to get this to work ? If so, you help appreciated.

perhaps an obvious Q, but have you validated the MD5 sum of the ISO?

Vbox is an
x86 virtualisation platform that runs on Intel and AMD chipsets. It
can't run SPARC, IBM mainframe, P series or dozens of other hardware platforms including the H/W that the Aliens in Independence Day supposedly used.
Try x86 Solaris. Sorry I missed it the first time round. My mind must be going

OK, thanks. Any suggestions how I can run sparc binaries on x86 ? What about QEMU ? Also, I think the opensolaris group have bundled a version of qemu in with their OS. Any chance it would run sparc.
Apart from that, I've come across QuickTransit which claims it can do it, but it costs $$ unfortunately.

QEMU is architecturally capable of doing cross platform emulation. Whether it supports SPARC on x86 is an issue that you'll need to explore on its forums. Of course the option is eBay.

yes if you need sparc specifically - for compiling things for another sparc for instance, then you can get a cheap netra for 200usd or less.
if its just to run solaris, then use solaris x86 under virtualbox.
