Ahh another thing,
there is a standard gfx card beeing emulated in virtualbox guests, and commands are kinda passed to host system, or mabye entire buffer (I guess)...
Wouldn't be same thing possible with webcam? I mean you could have a standard webcam driver for XP which simply graps buffer from linux webcam interface (maybe same as cheese uses?!?!)...this could solve problem without touching usb code, and would even work on OSE versions!

Greetings again

It's an Overlay Mixer trouble, imho. It not supported by Vbox VGA. Yet?

I have been looking for answers but I am also just seeing a black screen (no video at all). The webcam light goes on, but no video. I'm running Virtualbox 4.0.1 on a Windows 7 host. The virtual guest is Ubuntu 10.10.

I don't have this problem on VMware Player or Workstation.

Hi...
you should give it a shot and install the extension pack...
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
-->> VirtualBox 4.0.2 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack

Also check if you're member in the vboxusers group!
open up a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

groups [username]
if your not a member do a

Code: Select all

usermod -aG vboxusers [username]
This should fix your needs :P

greetings, Peter
