how to uninstall guest additions

hi all

i installed wrongly the guest additions in host os (linux)

can i remove them?

using virtualbox ose 2.1.4 from here: http://adoldo.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/ ... -e-64-bit/

Not at the moment. You can search for files like "vbox*" at /, delete them manually.

i searched "vbox" by: locate vbox, and found the files are located in:

/var/lib/dkms
/usr/src/

if i deleted them, would the virtualbox program be affected?

The install process add the following files:

• etc/udev/rules.d/60-vboxadd.rules
  etc/init.d/vboxadd
  etc/init.d/vboxadd-timesync
  usr/bin/VBoxRandR
  usr/bin/VBoxClient
  usr/bin/VBoxControl
  usr/sbin/vboxadd-timesync
  sbin/mount.vboxsf
  lib/modules/2.6.24-23-virtual/misc/vboxadd.ko
  lib/modules/2.6.24-23-virtual/misc/vboxvfs.ko

plus updating rules in lib/modules/2.6.24-23-virtual/modules.dep and the /usr/src/vbox* directory. It also uses modprobe to add vboxadd and vboxvfs to the driver list and it also adds start and stop entries to the /etc/rc.d directories. You need to do a modprobe -r to remove these drivers and then you can remove all the vbox files.

The one that has me a little confused is the /var/lib/dkms one. I suspect that this is Linux vendors OSE-additions entry.

should i remove vboxdrv also (in usr/src)

also i wonder if virtualbox-ose-guest-utils and virtualbox-ose-guest-source (found in synaptic) be installed in guest or host os?
i guess these are the guest additions

These are the debian kits of the OSE GA provided by Ubuntu or whatever your distro is.
