Hi,
Yesterday I installed the Sun Virtual Box Program, version 2.1.4 on My Windows XPSP2+ (Host) created an new VM and tried to install as a Guest Widows XP SP2 using both (i)the Host Drive CD with an Installation Disk XPSP2 and (ii) a image (ISO) file made out of the same CD.
In both cases, after I click "Start" the VM did not want to boot and I got the following error Message:

"FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted."

I am sure, that my Installation CD-XPSP2 is a bootable one , because I used it many times in the past ( last time 6 weeks ago) and it performed always successful installations.
It is through, that my current PC is a old Laptop , Inspiron 8000 with CPU 750 Mhz, HDD 80 GB and RAM 512, however it is a "old strong horse" and still works not so bad with much more difficult tasks.
Maybe the CD drive does not start so quickly and the Guest VM does not get the right input signal by a certain default time, may be I Installed a very new version of Virtual Box (2.1.4), which has a a bug, I don't know .

Can some body help me to solve this problem?

What happens when you boot the laptop+cdplayer from that xp cd ?

It starts the usual Windows instalation,
first blue window......
...to set up windows- click..."
..to repair windows with repair console- click....
...to quit -click F3 ,
etc....

I made this many times, so I know this is the usual Windows installation Procedure

Check your guest os settings, you should see tab named "Advanced" under "General options" Here you should uncheck any bootable device you are not using and set boot device priority.

Mine settings are CD/DVD as first boot device and virtual HDD as second boot device.

Also visit CD/DVD-ROM section and check "MOUNT CD/DVD DRIVE" and choose would you like to use hardware CD/DVD device or just iso image.

That should do it. Enjoy

second: Hard Disk:checked
third:
Floppy: unchecked
fourth: Network: unchecked

B) CD/DVD- ROM/ Mound CD/DVD Drive: checked
Host CD/DVD Drive-Checked :
H (Guest OS-Letter)

or (alternatively)
ISO Image File-checked
WinXPSP2CD.iso (634,34 MB)

In any of the two cases (CD/DVD):
>>click Start
>> I see the the Sun xVM Virtual Box Window for 1-2 second..
>>> after that the black screen comes with the error Message
"FATAL: No bootable Medium found! System halted"
No success at all.
Please, help

I have the exactly the same problem on a new Acer 12" Laptop with Vista 32 Businness Guest OS...
I tried all the same options with no results...
Please help us...

The original thread is an old one. Why don't you describe exactly what you have done and what the results are. Then maybe we can help. Also you will need to post the exact settings that you are using in the guest that you are trying to install.

I got the same problem in 2.2.4 and 3.0 beta 2

But I found if your partition is larger then 8G you will get the error message, I try to partition my virtual hard disk with Partition Magic, it report "Your partition is more than 1024 cylinder, may can not boot the system".

It's a really old problem of BIOS and solved in the newer BIOS, I do not know why it's appear in Virtual Box again. And I can not find any way to enter into BIOS settings to change the LBA setting.
