Shared Folder with Additions installed (h:ubuntu, g:ubuntu)

Post by captainred »

hi
I've got a Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 Host and Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 guest using VirtualBox 2.1.4. I'm trying to share a folder between the two, additions are installed. The guest can see the shared folder and it's contents, but the guest cannot create/change files or subfolders. VM Shared Folder Settings are set to Full

I've been through the steps and suggestions in the following two URLs but am yet to find an answer...
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox
also http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.p ... 06818.html

Any suggestions on how to make guest have RW on the shared folder?

Thanks

it's taken some hunting but i finally got it working.

I could access the shared folder and copy files there but couldn't copy folders&files i.e. creating subfolders caused permissions errors.

Sasquatch's post in the following thread had the code (below) that got it working
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=13743

Code: Select all

mount -t vboxsf -o gid=1000,uid=1000 share /home/username/folder
why it didn't work out of the box remains a mystery - any suggestions as to why welcomed.

thanks
