VB sometimes hangs host, zombie process, VBoxSysInfo.sh

Post by stephanecharette »

Host is Ubuntu 8.10-64bit. Guest is Debian Etch 64-bit. Running with VB 2.1.4-64bit.

Every once in a while (maybe twice a week, I use it 8+ hours a day every day) VirtualBox will hang my host system completely while I'm using ALT+TAB to switch between host windows.

When it hangs, the VB guest window dissapears, and my host background is drawn on the screen but without any icons. Just the background image.

I can SSH into the host when my desktop has hung. Once I ssh in, I get a warning there are zombie processes. The problem applications (I think?) are called "VBoxSysInfo.sh". Here is the relevant portion of "ps axf":

Code: Select all

18301 ? Sl 1375:31 \_ /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox -comment Debian Etch Development -startvm e9ccf6a2-e807-4b1b-b702-5c2c902a2357
30171 ? Z 0:00 \_ [VBoxSysInfo.sh] <defunct>
 9132 ? Z 0:00 \_ [VBoxSysInfo.sh] <defunct>
  342 ? Z 0:00 \_ [VBoxSysInfo.sh] <defunct>
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
