How to open UDP ports on NAT server

Hello,

I am testing a softphone application that requires UDP packets to go into my guest machine. The result of this constraint is that I get one-way audio only.
I read the manual and it mentions how to open specific ports, but in this case it is a big range of ports. The easiest for me would be to open all UDP ports.
Can this be done? Or can I open a big range of ports?
Will this affect performance?

Thanks a lot!

There is no way to open a range of ports other than to script a loop calling VBoxManage to remap one at a time. If you want your guest to use a range of ports then you really should use Host IF.

Understood.
Question: let's say I leave it with NAT and I connect my guest via VPN? I suppose UDP packets should pass seamlessly through the VPN tunnel....

Thanks!

Remember that using VPN over NAT is a little hit and miss since some VPN implementations use more than just the TCP and UDP protocols to establish the VPN channel, but only TCP and UDP (oh and IIRC, ICMP in some circumstances) are rooted via NAT.

But let us know how you get on.

Sorry for the belated response. This forum won't tell me when someone replies to posts I have created or posted on. Or does it? I have looked around and couldn't find where to enable that....

Anyway! The VPN... it solved my problem. As far as the VPN cluster uses IPSec/UDP transport layer I can connect and all my UDP and TCP traffic is tunneled from the guest nice and smooth. It is a solution not many people would have, but a solution at the end.
