Periodic lags (every 1s) in guest machine

Im having strange problem on ubuntu 8.10
After few hours, guest machine (server 2003) starts to lag periodically every 1s for about 200-300ms (it completely stops down stops down for brief periods).

Log shows nothing suspicious.

Also guest machine sometimes start displaying 50% cpu in performance monitor - everything kernel times - while there is no user or system process using cpu..

Any ideas?

It usuallly takes more than 16 hours for lags to begin and they are becoming worse and worse.
50% cpu problem was unrelated one time thing.

Resolved this - was caused by intel 1000/t virtual network adapter.
Recreated machine and used defaul one - no more lags.
