Kernel panic when booting linux liveCD

This bug is apparently fixed. It isn't. I just downloaded the latest DEB (2.1.4, 64-bit) from the website and installed it on my Ubuntu 8.10 machine. I put a BackTrack3 disc into my host machine, and set VirtualBox to boot it. I got a kernel panic.

I rebooted the host machine, turned on AMD-V in the BIOS, and enabled AMD-V in VirtualBox. Kernel panic. wtf.

I've also tried the latest version of knoppix, and Xubuntu 7.10. Kernel panics abound. The latest Arch works because it uses a newer kernel with fixes for VirtualBox. But from my understanding, this was a VirtualBox bug, and it was fixed. What is up?

I have no idea what is wrong. I just picked my own Ubuntu 8.10 beta live CD, and it already had the 2.6.27 kernel in it. No kernel panic. This is with 2.1.2 on Windows XP, but the same happens for me on Ubuntu 8.10 with 2.1.4. I don't have VT-x/AMD-v options on my hardware though, but that shouldn't matter.
Even Xubuntu 7.10 did nothing but work properly.

Here's the screenshot of the kernel panic on Xubuntu 7.10 32-bit:

Should I file a bug report on something that is said to be fixed?

Btw, I have also tried OpenSUSE 11.1 64-bit as a host machine for VirtualBox, and the exact same damn thing happens.

FYI: I found a workaround for this, enable IO-ACPI for the guest machine. It will boot fine then.
