Windows XP Guest can't see Canon Camera on USB port

Hi:
i am running a Fedora Core 8 host and running windows XP on it. I have a Canon SD300 digital camera that I wish to run on the XP guest. However, I can not find a way to make windows XP see it. When I plug the device into my Linux host first Linux sw comes on asking if I want to download photos. I don't, i want my windows guest to do this so I say "ignore". I then do:
$ VBoxManage list usbhost says:
UUID: e00f9ee9-4400-481c-8443-cbae38d4382b
VendorId: 0x04a9 (04A9)
ProductId: 0x30bf (30BF)
Revision: 0.1 (0001)
Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
Product: Canon Digital Camera
Address: /proc/bus/usb/002/011
Current State: Unavailable
I next in USB Filters option for my Window Guest I say "add filter" and Canon shows up so I say "add".
But after this I am not sure what I need to do. I can't see this device from Windows Guest.
I read in the manual that:
"Also, VirtualBox can only proxy to virtual machines
USB devices which are not claimed by a Linux host USB driver. Please refer to
the Driver= entry in /proc/bus/usb/devices to see which devices are claimed."
But how does one prevent Linux from capturing the Canon camera device (or how does one make Linux give it up so that Windows XP guest can start to use it?)
Any hints welcome. thanks.
