How could I use host usb devices in guest? I have connected several devices but cannot acces then in guest (on host visible, guest invisible)
Host: debian 5.0 stable, VB 2.1.4
Guest: WXP SP3
On USB devices list I can see them but they are grey, what is the problem? In manual this situation is not discussed.
PS: I need to flash my phone, but have only windows app.
I tried to run VB as root and working now, but, I dont know why is dont work in normal user (as normal user on host I can read/write usb disks, printer, etc...)
I have had this problem with Fedora 7,8,9 and now 10. The USB configuration always, as a user, shows the correct device but status is determined to be not available.
For file devices, USB hard drives and other file devices like cruzer etc, I found that you can install the device and then start VB. Then go to the 'Devices' selection on the top border of the guest display and assign a transient shared device. You must first discover what the Linux host has mounted it as. This took a long time to figure out but it works.
Now for all other USB non-file system devices such as a PDA etc... no luck. WinXP guest will not see it primarily the interface to these devices are via a proprietary interface.
I did, in Fedora 8, unload VB and the WinXP OS and reinstalled it as root. Works like a charm just like you would expect.
It's almost as if it was designed and tested only in single user mode.
