VM maximize/screen lockup on VM shutdown...

I've seen this problem repeatedly in 2.1.2 and 2.1.4, on different PCs having different display adapters/drivers (that I thought might be the cause of it, initially):
On occasion, upon shutting down a VM (and it doesn't matter if it's a Windows or Linux guest), using the appropriate shutdown method (i.e. 'poweroff' in Linux, or 'Shutdown' in Windows), the VM window will switch to fullscreen, and there seems to be no way of recovering the local display.
I can still SSH to the host, but terminating any process having to do with VirtualBox will not see the screen reset, nor will trying to restart the display manager. It appears to "lock" the display, and refuses to release it.
I'm frequently left having to reboot the host to regain my desktop. Is this something of a known issue? OpenGL is enabled for either adapter (one display is Intel Q935 based, while the other is an NVIDIA 8600GTS), and I do not have 3D acceleration enabled for any of the VMs.
