I have created two virtual machines in virtualbox 2.1.4 in windows. they work well. since i dualboot with linux, i have installed virtualbox 2.1.4 in ubuntu 64 so that i can use the same vms on either platforms. after installation i registered the virtual machines but i dont not see them listed in the virtualbox gui. (vms stored in ntfs partition).
Any clues?

i have tried the opposite of creating a vdi from ubuntu 64 and trying to access it inside windows and it's not showing there either. is this an issue of not being able to she vdis across platforms? or am i doing something wrong?

You only registered the hard drive of the VM. You need to create a new VM, give it the exact same settings (MAC, APIC, etc) as your other OS and point to the proper HD. Now you can use it. Note that saved states and snapshots are not transferrable this way, unless you edit the files each time manually.

So you mean to say is that if I used a VDI in linux and created a snapshot and/or saved a state, and then reboot to Windows and opened up that same VDI that I will not be able to access those same states/snapshots?

Correct. That is because these files are noted in the config of the VM, and you can't share the same config file between windows and linux. You have to 'hack' the changes in the other config file before you can actually use the snapshots/saved state. But it's a dirty solution, so better shut the VM down, and if you want to make a 'snapshot', get a backup of the file instead.

Thank you so much for your help and explanation..
I hope that a fix or some feature to actually do that is in the works/future.....
