updated virtualbox, still no usb

I have read usb related posts and tried suggested fixes to fstab, but I am still unable to get usb working. The devices are listed, but grayed out. As a workaround, I can copy from the usb to a shared folder and then into the virtual winXP, but prefer to use the usb drive directly with the virtual xp. Also, I have a usb printer that I would like to use. I feel certain that I am using the usb supported virtual box.

You are writing only "doesnt work", but no Details.

What have you tried? Version? Host? Guest Settings?
