Req: How to share one Guest (.vdi) between two linux users

I have tried searching on this forum but only come up with posts about accessing shared folders.
What I would like to do is have one Windows XP Guest virtual machine shared between my linux account and my wife's linux account (on the same machine). I have placed the virtual machine file "WindowsXP.vdi" on a separate NTFS partition. However, my question is what happens if both users run this virtual machine? Is this even possible?
Is there a better way to achieve this? i.e having one virtual machine that both users on the same machine have access to?
