Heho,

due to the situation with my provider (http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=14769) i am looking for a howto or some tips.

i have a server, one physical interface connected (eth0) with multiple IPs.
i want to run multiple virtual machines with own IPs.
Usage of own MAC per virtual machine is restricted.

what is the best way ?

maybe use privat fiex ip´s in the virtual machines, enable NAT on the host ?

or is vbox not able to run in that situation ?

cheers,
Ralf

Since you can't use HIF, you have to forward ports for each VM service.

You can also buy a router and use that. But if the VMs need to be accessible from the outside, you're practically at the same point as with the VB NAT option.

Solution is:

use a tap device
assign this tap an IP for the host
don´t use a bridge
in vbox, use hostinface and the tap as the interface

that way, you have a ethernet broadcast domain - the tap acts as a hub.

host and vbox guest cann communicatn

and: you can NAT/MASQ the traffic so use your official IP´s and have 2-way internet traffic.
