total noob, USB

hello. i need ur help. im using ubuntu 8.10 and i wanted to use my usb drive for the vm. i installed the ose version but then i was told i need PUEL edition for usb to work. i got the puel edition. i enabled usb in the option menu but when i put my usb drive, the usb does not load up in VMWARE. can someone please help me.
