SUSE 9 - 64 bit really slow

I have suse server 9 running on red hat enterprise 5.3 , on a dual quad core intel system with 32GB of ram and the performance is really slow. Anyone have any ideas what i am doing wrong? I have the vt-x enabled. and have assigned 3584 of ram to this VM.
