Sudo using VB (Ubuntu64 intrepid host, Vista 32 guest)

Post by freetommy33 »

I am using Ubuntu as host operating system. I run windows Vista 32 bit operating system in VB. I Do not have sufficient privlages to install programs on my windows guest operating system. I then run Virtual Box as a sudo user, but my guest operating system is no longer seen by Virtual Box.

So... My question is do I need to run Virtual Box as a sudo user to install programs on my guest operating system. OR some how need to figure out how to get administrative privileges on my guest operating system. -sorry if that sounds ignorant but i'm more of a hardware guy. (Cant change user from log in screen to "administrator")

Correction, I am the administrator on my guest operating system, and still cannot install programs because i do not have "Sufficient Privileges." So does this mean i have to be a sudo user when running VB to install guest operating system apps? Is that a good idea when my guest operating system has Internet connection?

Host and Guest privileges are two different things. Don't run VB as the Super User on the Host. Not only are your VMs unavailable, it won't help the Guest OS.

You say you run Vista, are you running the installer as Administrator? Right click the file, then hit Run as Administrator.

Oh, thanks..

I'm used to XP, and this is my first experience with vista and its through a virtual box. So i wasn't sure if it was a VB thing or not.
