I get an error that states that the file size is too big for my file system. Running Ubuntu 8.10 win WinXP as the virtual machine. Formatted in NTFS.
At first I thought I was out of diskspace. I checked and I am using 5 gig out of 10 allocated. Then I reead the message clearer and understand it to say a file is too big for the file system? What???
Any ideas?

OK, I have started fresh with a new Virtual XP install. I allocated 20 gig. I did the WINXP install and installed some software. Ocassionally it breaks and says I am out of disk space. I used the dynamic sizing for the setup (20 gig). After the error I stop the machine, start it back up and it works for a couple of hours. Whenever I try to install new software, it says I am out of space again. I have to stop the machine and start it to get it working again. Now I am receiving and error message that says:

Host system reported that the file size limit of the host file system has been exceeded. VM execution is suspended. You need to move your virtual hard disk to a filesystem which allows bigger files.

Error ID:
DevATA_FILETOOBIG
Severity:
Warning

Why am I getting this message. I have plenty of disk space and it is formatted in NTFS. VB is 2.1.4

The Guest partition might be NTFS, but what does the HOST use? Is it ext3, FAT32, NTFS, other FS? Please post the output from parted on the Host for your hard drive. Open parted with sudo parted /dev/sda, then type print and post that output. Replace /dev/sda with the hard drive you store the VM on.
