Every time I try to start my VirtualMachine I get an error that says I don't have the right permissions and I need to do a "chmod 666 /dev/net/tun".

I do this everytime and it works, but it's just annoying. Why won't it stick and how do I add myself to that group or whatever?

Which VB version? Since 2.1.0, you don't need the TAP interfaces anymore. For earlier versions, you have to be a member of the vboxusers group (needed anyway) to access the VB virtual interfaces.
If you use UML-Utilities to create TAP interfaces with tunctl, see their documentation.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
