After Renaming Machine : ERROR NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTER

Post by illuminate7 »

Hi,

first of all i would like to thank all of the people working in the OpenSource Community and especialy the VirtualBox guys!!!

Since i am using Linux (suse 11.1) for the first time i wanted to switch 100% to linux. That was my plan until i realized that i have problem installing the Epson printer EPL-5900L; C900 and the 1260 Scanner on my 64 BIT System.

I am developing WebStuff and Multimedia and program also a bit so i wanted to use VirtualBox for programs i do not have on Linux e.g. Adobe etc... or i am not familiar with yet.

So i installed VirtualBox 2.1.2 on my ASROCK 780FUllHD, AMD Phenom II 970 and SAMSUNG 2343BW SATA System. Then i made a nice Windows XP PRO Slipstream Disc and created a Machine in VirtualBOX.

Everything worked fine and i could install XP Pro without any problems. I also added the User / Group thing and guess what???

I could use my USB Stick, my USB Printer 1 & Printer 2 and even the Scanner on my VirtualBox Maschine, BUT NOT on my host SUSE 11.1!!!!!!!!! That was hard to understand for me..... but OK....

So i tryed to BACKUP my VirtuamMaschine on a USB Stick just if anything goes wrong. I read the Manpages and surched some forums but could not figure out how to get the UUID !!!! (Please describe that in your FAQ!)

And here comes my Problem:
I renamed my Virtual maschine from Windows XP PRO SP3+ into SUSE_XPPRO32_SP3_V1 in the VirtualBox options menue!

Now i can't start it and get this nice Error:

Code: Select all

Callee RC:
NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)
Now i saw there is a update for VirtualBox but i do not know how to install it! I open Yast and search for VirtualBox and get the list with my installed VirtualBox and in red color written that here is a new version.

So i choose to install. But is starts and suddenly yast quits without a warning!!!!

What schould i do now to gat VB working back agin?
How can i get the UUID to be able to copy or Buckup my maschine?

Thanks and best regards to all Linuxians!!

The VM is just a file on the hard drive. It's saved in your home folder by default in ~/.VirtualBox/. There is a folder called Machines, that has the config files for the machine and there is a folder called HardDrives, which hold the VDI files (the virtual hard drives). You can backup the entire .VirtualBox folder so you have all your VMs when you restore it. If you only want to backup the virtual hard drive, you can just copy the VDI file.

As for the renaming of the VM itself. I just renamed it on my system without any problem. It might be because you used some special characters. You state that the first name had a plus sign (+) in the name, VB might not have liked it after it was removed. And underscores (_) might mean something too. Though that shouldn't really be a problem. Both characters should be accepted and possible to be changed.

For your package update, if you use your package manager, you have to make sure that you install the same kind of version (OSE from your repository or PUEL from the website). If you installed the version from the website, you have to use a local package installer to install the file. I'm not familiar with SuSE, but the documentation of your distro should help you how to install local packages.
